Reclassification of Students Assistants
Overview
Reclassification of student assistants may only take place if the supervisor already has on file with the Library Human Resources Office an approved plan for upward movement of his/her student assistant positions, showing significant changes in job duties and responsibilities.
Pay increases based upon reclassification must be at least to the minimum of the salary range for the new classification.
The Libraries' Assistant Human Resources Manager approves salary increases for reclassification and has responsibility for oversight in order to maintain librarywide equity.
In exceptional cases, the AUL for Administrative Services may approve a total salary increase of up to 15% upon upward reclassification or promotion, provided that the new rate does not exceed the salary range maximum of the new classification.
Instructions
Student supervisors should submit a Student Assistant Job Description(s) for the proposed new classifications to Library Human Resources. Supervisors should also submit a Student Payroll Authorization Form and indicate the proposed salary rate for each job description.
The Assistant Human Resources Manager will communicate to the supervisor either the approval of the proposed reclassification plan or the need for modification of the job description(s) and will discuss equity issues if appropriate. The Assistant Human Resources Manager has responsibility for determining the start date of reclassification actions for student assistants.
